What is Part B Medicare?
Part B of the Medicare plan is designed to help those that do not fit into Part A. It helps you with outpatient costs, occupational and physical therapy costs and necessary medical doctor’s services. As well as covering the cost of treatment, you can also claim for preventative care too.
Unlike Part A, Part B usually requires most people to pay a premium fee. Some States do provide help with this if needed so it is always worth checking to see what your State’s rules are. It is also worth knowing that you don’t have to pay the premium in full. If you cannot afford it there is usually an option that allows you to pay quarterly.
Everything the Plan Covers
While Part B is not a 100% cover plan, it does tend to cover most people’s needs. Therefore it is one of the most common parts of the Medicare service. It will typically cover:
- Hospital, Doctors and Home Health Care
- Preventative Shots
- Screenings, Labs and Tests
Part A will not typically cover you for tests and lab fees. However these are usually needed before you can be treated for a problem. So if you need more extensive cover, Part B is likely to be for you.
Preventative shots include flu shots once per year. The plan also includes mammograms, dialysis, limited prescription drugs and physical therapy to name just a few additional services. If you need home care then you can claim part time necessary help from a skilled home care worker. Also if you end up in hospital for broken bones then the chiropractor fees will be included. One pair of glasses is even included in the cover so if anything happens to them you can get them repaired or replaced.
Overall Medicare is designed mainly with the elderly in mind though it is always worth checking to see if you are an eligible candidate. Part B is one of the most popular Medicare plans but just to be sure it is the best plan to suit you, you should take a look at the other plans and what they include.
